I suppose I could start with a name, Loren Gehr. Java Dock has always been somewhat of a dream job for me. I would come in during lunch breaks in high school and soak up the atmosphere while munching on a fudge oatie bar. One day, my dream fell into place.
I had strayed away from Port Washington to pursue my interest in design, more specifically, photography. Having work for the lovely Pamela Strohl (whose photos are hanging in our shop at this very moment) after graduating high school, I took an interest in being behind the camera. Anything to do with a photograph piqued my interest; the dark room process, the editing, the manipulating. It all lead to me getting a degree at Madison Media Institute in digital art and design.
However, photography wasn't my only motivation. Coffee had a huge role in my college experience. Everyone morning before school I would stop at some cafe, but none of them ever gave me the feeling I get when I walk into The Dock. It feels relaxing and rejuvenating. As much as I enjoy taking pictures, nothing makes me smile more than the faces I seeing coming in to our shop.
My goal is to put a smile on everyones face, and if I cannot, so be it. Know that I will do my best to do so. Even if I only get to have a 2 minute conversation with someone, I feel as though that small break in you day, that you chose to stop in for some coffee, should not only come with some freshly ground java, but be followed with laughter. It is after all natures best medicine.
